Re: Welcome to the AVIX General Forums!
Thanks, Guardian. I think forums are really important for an exchange, too.

SLCapEx Suggestions » better record keeping
Re: better record keeping
These are both good suggestions, and we can do them. We store all the information such that we can do this. Right now the CSV download is based on the cash side of the transactions rather than the stock side.

SLCapEx Suggestions » Good 'Till Cancelled (GTC) orders
Do you think that having orders that never expire would have a positive or negative impact on overall liquidity of the market?

SLCapEx Suggestions » Currency Buy/Sell Page Distinction
Re: Currency Buy/Sell Page Distinction
That's a good question, Kailen. You're absolutely right-- they could be on the same page, the way stocks are. My reasoning for doing it the way that I did was to make it more clear to people not familiar with the process what they need to do to buy or sell L$. I reasoned that clicking a "Buy L$" button on the side menu was more clear. In general I was really wanting to reduce the confusion as much as possible for doing a currency trade.

The first time I used SL Exchange's currency exchange I was utterly perplexed at the process. I had to do a small trade all the way through to make sure I was doing the right thing. (I know, go ahead and make fun of me, but I was seriously overwhelmed and confused the first time.)

The other reason that I separated them is that currency exchange, for most users, is different from trading stocks. All stock traders both buy and sell stocks. But most currency traders either mostly sell or mostly buy. It's a relative minority of people that trade currency both directions for profit.

I could be wrong about all that, but that was my thought process.

SLCapEx Suggestions » minimum share purchase/sell
Re: minimum share purchase/sell
I kind of like the minimum quantity idea. My only resistance to that is that it can be fun to dabble in stocks at very low quantities. My first stock trades on WSE were with L$50 deposited. I tell a lot of people they can start trading with a $0.25 USD budget, and it's true, and I like that.

Higher transaction fee for low volume trades won't help much either, the amount it costs the trader isn't enough to be a dis-incentive for the kind of behavior we're wanting to avoid.

Perhaps we should show the last handful of trade directions and prices, as WSE does now? Only with timestamps?

I'm not sure-- is that kind of information OK to make public? I think some of the info WSE shows really should be private, like the trades of the top shareholders.

YEP is correct-- they've got to commit the money to leave the order up. So if they fall off the face of the earth it won't have an impact, except that we'll miss them dearly.

General Investment Discussion » WSE Crisis
WSE Crisis
I'm sorry for asking this, but I've been kind of out of the loop the last few days working hard on software. Would someone be willing to tell me a little about what's going on at WSE?

All I know about it is what I see in the company announcements on the WSE page. There were a few announcements from various CEO's saying don't panic, but I didn't see anything to really panic about other than the long downtime maybe, and the security breach. The announcements there lead me to more questions than answers. I saw that they went down a few days ago for updates. They've been down since 7/21? And what's this about rebuilding buildings that Lindsay and others were talking about?

I'm sorry for asking these questions that are surely obvious to so many of you, but I'm really curious what's up.

Maelstrom, thanks for posting that. Hey, you were semi-quoted in one of those articles!

SLCapEx Suggestions » have a way to transfer cash to a different person
Re: have a way to transfer cash to a different person
Mael, surely we could implement the risk API and run it on existing users periodically to help reduce the chance of the difficulties you mention. I'm just looking for ways to say "yes" to this request, because I can see how nice it'd be for users.

But perhaps there's other ways to help accomplish the same kinds of goals, too.

How would you feel about shared accounts?

Something along these lines: you can designate one of your subaccounts as shared, and create a list of people who can withdraw from the account. Set up limits per day for each person on the list, that kind of thing.
