SL CapEx Public Forum » A strawman proposal for the future of SLCAPEX
Re: A strawman proposal for the future of SLCAPEX
ok i know i am a minor investor and do not possess the financial knowledge that many of you have dislayed. Would it be fair to say that since SL has an exchange of their own with the participants being able to purchase and sell Lindens either at a market rate or at a chosen rate, impose fees on those transactions and basically encourage day trading, that is what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Changing SLcap over to conforming to basically Lindens own system would prevent them from further policing the exchange without also policing themselves. Unfortunately smaller traders like myself who became involved with SLcap before the ruling came down will not have any of the advantages of the larger "investors" or traders. Which brings me to a question that no one seems to be able to clarify for me so far. The dictionary defines investmensts as "the investing of money or capital in order to gain profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value". Ok, it is the appreciation of value part that perplexes me. Wouldn't the purchasing and selling of Lindens on the SL Exchange fall with in this parameter? In RL the selling and purchasing of currency is a banking function and used by many companies, they purchase foreign currency when it is deflated and sell it when it is inflated. This is an everyday activity not performed in secret or within only the private sectors but internationally on the exchanges, oh hell Lindens must be doing this themselves too. What about the financing of land purchases? Isnt the receiving of interest under the same ruling as the paying of interest? I am starting to wonder a) how much research Linden's put into this before they made this ruling OR b) how much they are not telling us is down the road based on these rulings with the fear of what it will do to their financial standing. Do they really expect people to come to SL and spend money that only the Lindens will benefit from? Heading in this direction you can bet this would have a major impact on whether people will even want to have a premium account or not. just my 2 cents (USD)

Thanks

General Investment Discussion » SLWallet Conversion
Re: SLWallet Conversion
SL is subject to California Laws but just like any other internet business it is subject also to applicable laws in which each USA resident RL lives. There are also international codes of conduct that which they maybe subject to also, but may not be inforcible at present time. However there has been a move for the past few years to an internatonal GAAP. Although these standards are similar in nature they are also meant to unite in uniformity those businesses that on a regular basis operate internationally, including business in their home country. The international RL(including the USA)is moving to establish these principles in placement of GAAP. SL has an opportunity (that I believe they are wasting) to at the forefront of this new business era. There is no getting around RL affects on the virtual world, and now the affects that the virtual world is having on RL perceptions of what is "property". Stocks, bonds, property values, currency, and what not are all actually just a "concept" and values are just "perceived" and generally accepted, and as such can be changed and be manipulated. SL is allowing itself to be bogged down by so much small mindedness and tunnel vision that they are missing the bigger picture. You can't please all the people all the time, but if they were to take the leap, in time they could bring order out of the chaos. SL is a business just like any other RL business. They however are having trouble accepting that they are an international business and as such conduct themselves in this manner. Instead they cling to their idea of a US business also conducting in an international venue. As for normative jurisprudence regarding virtual worlds, that is actually changing on a regular basis and the more the virtual world incorporates and affect RL the faster the ruling will come. I for one would prefer to be ready for it instead of being caught unaware. Don't forget.."Ignorance is no excuse"

I think the forums are a wonderful tool for discussion and exchange of ideas, but it becomes quite time consuming to search for the last entry before deciding to persue further reading. Any chance of the posting order being switched around (ie: last entry being on the first page).

Re: Before things get out of hand
Yes a set of standards does need to be adhered to, and not just by the listed companies but by Capex too. This isnt a one way street and when discriminatory practices are implemented it hurts not only the company whose trading is halted but Capex too. Besides the inevitable mistrust that ensues, I am sure the other exchanges will get quite a chuckle from all this. When you have this many companies not adhereing to the rules and regulations then there must be a problem with the process. Yes we should get all those indefault up to standards but we should also look to prevent the issue from going any further or becoming a reoccurring event. No I am sure that it probably isnt very difficult to fill out the financials, although it maybe time consuming. But no not everyone is an accountant nor do they have any type of experience in this field. GAAP has standards on the content of what is reported but just as in RL not everyone uses the same formats. When a company enters its IPO stage is Capex orientating them to the Capex standards? Are they making sure they understand what is expected of them and that they are able to comply with these standards. I am an accountant and believe me, if someone doesnt fully understand what to put where, why, and where to get it from then yes it will be wrong and it takes a hell of alot more time to correct those mistakes by anyone. It also makes it difficult to decern even if the information is wrong or whether it is just misplaced. So if Ima submitted the correct information but inerrantly reported it he will be highly confused as to what the error is. And just to note financials are never posted IRL until after they have been gone over several times by several people within the company. Image is everything for a successful business both publically and behind the scenes.

Re: Still halted?!
ok now why is it still halted? The site has been up for awhile now and the statements were all updated and submitted. It took SlCapex just a couple hours to halt why so long to un-halt?

I still dont understand why if my Lindens were converted to shares at 1L per share I am expected to sell at anything less. I been waiting since this started and they still sitting below value. Just buy me out already so I can put them to use. it is not fair to me that my money is used for free. Someone wanna loan me money for whatever I see fit. I will pay you back someday, when I feel like it and without interest, at whatever rate the market wind blows. LOL PS..even gambling has immediate outcomes, win or lose
