Torley's Blog About the Subject:
http://torley.com/how-to-convert-youtube-videos-for-playing-in-second-life

VIXY website for conversions:
http://vixy.net/

Blip.tv hosting site:
http://blip.tv/

Simple steps are to copy the YouTube url and paste them into the bar on Vixy, and then set the conversion type. After Vixy converts it, (it might not work sometimes or goes real slow, but keep trying) you download it and then upload it to your Blip.tv account. Then you try and find the specific url on blip.tv with the mov/mp4/etc of the video in question and then put that into your media player in SL.

It's messy, but it gets the job done. Just be careful of music videos and anything that can be taken down due to the lunacy of the RIAA or MPAA, Blip.tv will take them down moreso than YouTube will.

<![CDATA[ Re: So what does it do?!]]> http://slcapex.com/forums/topic/SLTM/521 Here is what I'm going to do, I will figure what channels are the best of the old ones. Which deliver best content and best quality and then I will make a TV with those streams included.

About converting Media, I don't know about the possibilities but i am going to check into that.

The problem is that YouTube is not streaming in Quicktime format. I know that Linden Lab is trying to implement other formats and that they are in contact with YouTube.

<![CDATA[ Re: So what does it do?!]]> http://slcapex.com/forums/topic/SLTM/521
I am always up for a good clean discussion.

I'll fill you in on some of my problems. To host my own content would cost me TONS of money in license, money that i don't have and the TV's would be a bad business if I had to pay license for the content. For some reason RL License does not follow the SL currency :) hehe.

The streams that are in the TV's are stuff that anyone can find on the internest for free and put in their TV's. That has never been a secret. But not all want to spend hours like I do to find the good content.

Another problem is that it HAS to be quicktime streams, because thats the only things Second Life supports. There is the All America Free TV channels, with movies from the 1930's that no longer have license, but I think they are in so poor quality that i don't want to put them into the TV's. Recently I have just added all SLCN channels, and some cool Machinima from Kronos Kirkorian, there is also Metaverse TV and the Tech Expo, which are not music videos. Music videos are a big demand in SL (ive had poll boards up), and they are easy to find on the internet. But that does not mean that I only look for that. I am always on the lookout for cool content and nice channels, and I am talking with the mayor movie companies at the moment. All with good time, bottom line is, I'm working hard on providing the best streams in SL ofcourse hosted on the best looking TV's with the most userfriendly menu.

The lag may have been due to something as simple as every camp pad you have in the store was full, and the people may have had loads of gadgets attached or something, who knows. The key is that the menu is affected by lag, and because of the way it is set up it seems more noticeable than lag affecting the plain old SL tv.

I guess what I am looking for is something with some different content. I understand that a lot of these TVs get used in clubs and whatnot where videos are king, but if I am going to buy a TV for my living room, can you give me some old Sienfeld episodes, or a classic movie channel? I don't know anything about the technology, so I don't know how you can expand the content, but as long as it is the same old content you can get on any other tv in SL, I can't validate spending a lot of money on it. That is just me, but hey, we're expressing opinions here. :-)

There will always be people who throw lindens at the latest and gratest gadget, and you do have that here. I think the TV will sell well. I just wonder if anything can be done to get some good old TV content on rather than music videos 24x7.

Thanks again!!

Thank you for your challenge, it's always nice to get some constructive critique on the products.

First of all, regarding picks in my profile. I have tried changing them serveral times. But when i log off and back in the same old picks are still there. I simply CAN'T change them which really annoys me.

I have put the old TV's, with the old menu for sale at 500 L$, simply because they are no longer supported, they no longer get updated and I don't think they have that much value now compared to the new system.

Regarding the new menu, I'm sad to hear that you find it slow. I was at another sim last night and the customer there had a particle system that made it all lag. I can make the fastest product in the world, but everything will really slow down with massive lags.
I have not seen the TV's in my store behave slow in any way, I'm not sure why they where slow when you where here, but i would love to give you a live demo when you are available.

Here is some features that I think increases the value:

You never have to update the new TV's, because they get their content from a RL server, they get updated automaticly all over the grid.

You can make your own playlist from the streams that are in the TV. When your playlist is made your start it and it will run till you stop it.

The user access list in the TV is controlled by the users YOU add to it. Which means that if you owned a club and you only wanted your staff to control the TV, you just add them to the user list and then lock the TV. EVEN if it's group owned.

The menu is dynamic, which means that I can change the menu that you see from day to day. The product is still new and i am still new in the TV business compared to many others. But I try hard, and I daily search for new content to put in the TV's.

Because the menu is ON the TV, we can subdivide it and make an easier overview of the content there. The music videos are categorized (which a lot of my customers has asked for).

All these features make a great product in my oppinion, but we do not have to agree on that. I once again thank you for your critique, and I did not see your post as negative at all.

I took the opportunity to wander into the MegaStore last night and look at the demo version of the new tv. While the menu driven system is impressive, what we have seems like just another version of the same old TV with the same Music Videos and links to SL media streams readily available in a $500L TV. This one doesn't even promise the hours and hours of included porn that usually jacks a TVs price up over the $2000L threshold.

So I guess my challange is, Convince me to buy this TV. What makes it worth the $3999? The menu is cumbersome and laggy in your store, and one would expect your demo would be set up under the most ideal of conditions, so how is it expected to perform better in my living room?

My DreamTheatre I can type in /10 mtv199 and get the video I want right away.... from what is available in the showroom in order to access a specific video I still have to navigate through at least 3 levels of menu options. How is that an improvement?

Again, not trying to be negative, but challanging the value of this product in hopes of seeing either improvement, or in store marketing that adresses these questions.

Oh, and Tue you might set up your Pick so that the MegaStore actually teleports to the store instead of being tagged to some invalid location. I usually find it easier to search for stores through the profiles of the management and had a heck of a time with yours... thought the SIM was down.

Thanks!!
